The Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum provides children with the tools and inspiration they need to be explorers and creators of the world. We do this in part through understanding, supporting and promoting play in the fullest sense of the word, one that includes imagination and creativity. Under the direction of the Director of the Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum, the Visitor and Member Engagement Manager is responsible for a number of specific tasks as outlined below. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

  • Providing direct supervision of part time museum staff, including all floor staff and one member of the office staff. This includes hiring, onboarding and training, check-ins and performance reviews, coaching and discipline, offering and tracking ongoing staff trainings, and recognizing and retaining staff.
  • Managing museum membership program, which includes data entry, communication with members, training staff to sell memberships, and ensuring the strength and growth of this program.
  • Overseeing all aspects of the museum's point of sale system, including back-of-house operations, training, and reporting.
  • Preparing and submitting appropriate records and reports of museum operations and activities necessary to support administrative policy and relevant grant requirements.
  • Supervising operations of museum gift shop, including inventory, purchasing, and regular assessment of all gift items.
  • Handling member and visitor experience including concerns, comments, and complaints as needed and ensure that member/visitor concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
  • Working with PlayHouse management team to create a culture of teamwork, ongoing learning and reflection, and care for colleagues and the museum.
  • Managing museum rentals and group visits to ensure a positive experience.
  • Assisting with operations of gift shop, including inventory, purchasing, and regular assessment of all gift items.
  • Working with staff throughout the Park District, including developing knowledge of PPD policy and procedures and ensuring that the PlayHouse adheres to these standards.
  • Processing payroll and ensuring that floor staff receive PPD communications.
  • Recruiting, training, and supervising PlayHouse volunteers.
  • Working on the floor / admissions desk as needed.
  • Ordering supplies, including staff t-shirts, front desk supplies, and office supplies.
  • Ongoing improvement of PlayHouse operating systems as needed.
  • Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supporting all aspects of the Park District safety program. Performing all other duties as assigned.
