  • Coordinates the annual audit with Board approved CPA firm; prepares audit work papers; prepares audit report schedules; drafts transmittal letter, management discussion and analysis, and footnotes to the financial statements; reviews audit report for accuracy and compliance with all regulatory requirements and GASB Statements; ensures audit report meets the criteria for participation in the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award program.
  • Prepares and provides to the Board Secretary for filing the annual Treasurer's report; confirms with Board Secretary publication of annual audit availability notice.
  • Prepares Popular Annual Financial Report that provides financial and operating information about the District to the general public in an easily understandable format and that meets the criteria for participation in the GFOA award program.
  • Prepares and submits by the deadline the annual financial report for the State of Illinois Comptroller's Office.
  • Reconciles all balance sheet accounts monthly; prepares monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepares asset, liability and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing transactions; documents basis for entries; maintains fixed asset data base.
  • Prepares, verifies accuracy, files by required deadlines, and submits payments for monthly, quarterly and annual reports for wages paid, payroll withholdings, 1099s, sales tax, HRA taxes, etc.
  • Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents including, but not limited to, accounts payable transactions and checks; payroll wages, withholdings, deposits, and reporting; and accounts receivable transactions and deposits.
  • Works with the Payroll & Accounts Payable Specialist to follow up on unclaimed checks; ensures compliance with and the completion of the annual unclaimed property reporting and submission of unclaimed monies.
  • Analyzes regulatory changes promulgated by federal and state agencies and other regulatory or standard setting agencies that impact district financial operations and financial reporting. Develops recommendations and then implements appropriate changes to ensure compliance with all regulatory and standard setting agencies.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of all software utilized within the business division, including but not limited to, financial transaction processing and reporting, payroll processing and reporting, time keeping systems, check writing, purchase order tracking, and warehouse ordering and tracking. Prepares custom reports from such systems as required.
  • Compiles financial information as required for posting on the District's website. Ensures accuracy of all financial information and business reports or records posted on the District's websites.
  • Ensures accurate reporting of all earnings and withholdings. Reviews all processes and reporting necessary to correct payroll processing errors including, but not limited to, overpayment and underpayment of wages and withholdings.
  • Evaluates, recommends improvements, documents and tests the District's system of internal controls; works closely with appropriate staff to evaluate and document internal controls at the department and facility level; follows all internal control procedures.
  • Follows all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and supports all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
